Protect Yourself

COVID-19 is spread by droplets containing the virus which can be transmitted when an infected person talks, coughs or sneezes in close proximity (within 2 metres) to another person. Transmission can take only a few minutes and it is important to take precautions in order to help protect ourselves and our whānau from being infected.

What you can do

  • Stay at home if you are feeling unwell
  • Practice good hygiene
  • Wash and/or sanitise your hands regularly
  • Get into the habit of practising social distancing
  • Sneeze or cough into your elbow
  • Use disposable tissues
  • Wear a facemask in crowded settings and on public transport
  • Avoid closed spaces with poor ventilation

Wearing a face mask or face covering, practising social distancing and regular hand washing are all things that you can do to reduce the risk of transmission.
